Blog

A July Update

Wow what has happened to the world since that last blog in sunny Italy????? I hope you are all well and have hopefully stayed safe in all this madness.

When we went into lock down, like you, I thought OMG how are we going to get through this financially? Obviously, all my bookings were cancelled and rightly so. My partner had to shut down his shop so it really was a big worry. Then a good friend who also runs a Tea Party business said about doing Afternoon Tea in a box, no crockery, no parties just a lovely meal in a box.

Well I couldn’t believe what happened next. Due to everyone missing their parents so much, people wanted to treat their loved ones. I was inundated, so I apologise if you had to wait for replies from me. It was great to be able to still offer a service that would feed my family but I won’t lie… delivering to people on their own in care homes that resembled the Mary Celeste laid heavy on my heart and there were a lot of tears.

On the positive side, I was making their day and they knew their kids loved them and were missing them.

I am still doing the boxes but hoping to return to the parties and setting out my beautiful crockery as soon as I can. In the meantime, stay safe and look after yourselves and thank you all for your support at this surreal time.

First Tea Party back from Holiday

Well I took the family off to sunny Italy to see the sights, soak up the atmosphere and history of the beautiful country.  Now back home and back to work my first Tea Party was going to be a pretty one as Luisa who runs Wild Daisy Florist was doing the flowers in teapots and had bunting all around her garden.  It was a surprise party for her Mum who loved it.

Back from holiday and raring to go!!!!!

Good Afternoon hope you are all pleased the sun has calmed down???  I am just back from a mini grand tour of Italy where it was SO hot.  I discovered the most beautiful Tea Rooms in Piazza San Marco which got me thinking.  Got a head full of ideas for Me Old Vintage China.  Funny how a holiday is so relaxing but can motivate you in so many ways.  So today I am offering a 10% discount of any party over 20 people booked before the end of September.  Also remember we hire out crockery for all those wonderful Macmillan Parties next month.

Tea parties, tea parties everywhere!!!!!

It’s been a busy old Summer from stunning Weddings, beautiful Memorial teas and Happy Baby Showers.  Hope you are all enjoying the Summer.   Here are a few events Me Old Vintage China have put on.

You can make an old village hall look stunning but I equally enjoy laying out my wares in people’s home.  I particularly love this following photo a Memorial Tea to send off a much loved Father and Husband.

Or when you have a hall as your venue you have to get there as early as you can and the manic prepping of making everywhere look beautiful starts.  It is always a race against the clock I don’t think any village hall ever lets you in early enough but it keeps me on my toes and we always pull it off.  This is a 70th I did for my friend’s Mum who lives in Cornwall.  Yes my beautiful crockery went on on a scary road trip but nothing got broken – phew!!!

Any finally there are the care homes, where teas are laid out in the community room.  Whether it’s a Memorial Tea or a Thank You party for volunteers, helpers, crafters or a charity tea it’s always lovely to have some bright flowers on your table.

So as I say a busy old Summer.  One more tea party to go then I am swapping the land of scones for the land of Tiramisu.  HAPPY HOLIDAYS everyone xx

LONG HOT SUMMER

Wow what a Summer setting up Weddings in marquees in silly temperatures does nothing for my hair seriously why bother with GHD’s I just end up looking like Medusa!!!!!!

It’s been a busy Summer with several big Weddings and so many Baby Showers and Tea Parties I have been kept on my toes.  The hottest day of the year and we laid the tables in a marquee in a field in Herne Bay.  A beautiful wedding but boy was it hot.  I got back home and made the sausage rolls and iced the cakes and went back to set up.  Thankfully I had a great team of helpers with me as it was hot hard work and lots of water was consumed.  I left the Wedding in full swing to go home to the dreaded washing up and then a well deserved Pinto Grigio in the garden!!!!!!

New Year New Ideas

So are you are like me?   Thinking of new ideas and plans for the upcoming year.  This year I want to make Me Old Vintage China an all round Vintage affair.  So I have been gleaning high and low every flea market, boot fair and antique shop to find new ideas.  So if you are having that special event in your garden or meadow have some fun with our vintage games.  Also on the look out for props to add that bit of glamour to your day.  So keep an eye on all the new exciting stuff being added.

Over 70’s FREE Christmas Afternoon Tea

Who says COMMUNITY SPIRIT is dead?

Debbie the Landlady of the Rising Sun and I organised a FREE Afternoon Tea for our Over 70s.   Therefore I put a post on our local FB site and people that don’t know me from a bar of soap were putting donations through my door. Paul Hollywood would have been hard to judge because of the amount of delicious homemade cakes donated and people got up early to make sandwiches and sausage rolls before they went off to work. Small local businesses gave me money.

Most importantly local supermarkets gave me bags of sandwich ingredients. The wonderful children of all the local infant schools made Christmas cards for our elderly. We had amazing beautiful goodie bags donated for everyone as they left and homemade crafted gift bags filled with chocolates on the table from Mums at local schools. Volunteers worked SO hard chauffeurs were amazing and kept my head from exploding when it got too manic. How this town came together today is mind blowing and makes me feel very emotional and humble. Never underestimate the great British public!!!!!!!

2017 – year of 70ths

So after last year when 50th birthday parties seemed to dominate the year, 2017 seems to be the year of 70ths, with a gaggle of 70th Parties in the diary already. It’s really important to make these parties look as authentic but also as colourful and vibrant as ever. So this week I have gleaned the gorgeous antique huts of Faversham Harbour, a couple of auctions and the usual wonderful charity shops of East Kent to add to Me Old Vintage China’s collection. Also I have been informed of a group organised by Meet Up where people meet up once a week to scour charity shops in beautiful Kent villages. Once they have purchased their wares, its then onto a country pub for a glass of wine. This sounds extremely civilised to me and I have booked onto my first one. Happy Days methinks.

The Grand Ladies of Swalecliffe Library TALKTIME Cream Tea

Every Thursday morning from 10.30 – 11.30 at Swalecliffe Library there is a ‘Drop In’ centre called TALKTIME which is run by Kent County Council for anyone who fancies a cup of tea and chat.

Helen and her troupe of hardworking volunteers set out a section of the library and bring in their wonderful homemade cakes. Today Veronica made a Lemon Drizzle we had over 15 attendees all of whom enjoyed the Lemon Drizzle and some scones.

Quite often the team at Swalecliffe Library arrange for someone to come in and talk to the group.  We have recently had a lady who hires out vintage crockery bring in her colourful collection. We also had a speaker talking about hands and nail care and children from a local school came in and sang songs, it was delightful.

This facility at the library is great for bringing members of the community together, so come down next Thursday and meet the great volunteers who will make you extremely welcome.
